No One Knows The Day Or Hour

If you believe in a Mid-Trib or Post-Trib, indirectly, you are saying that you know the day or hour. Only the Pre-Trib theology does one not know the day or hour, which fits in perfectly with what the Scripture teaches about the coming of the Lord because it could happen at any moment.

36 No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. -Matthew 24:36 BSB

The phrase “that day or hour” does not only suggest the exact day and hour of Jesus’ return. It means that no one can say with certainty, “Jesus is coming in 2022 or 2032.” Because, if you don’t know exactly the date but think that you know the year, it is the same as “that day or hour.”

In verse 42, it says, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day on which your Lord will come.” Then Jesus gives an example of what He just said in verse 43, which says, “But understand this: If the homeowner had known in which watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.”

The thief represents Jesus and the Father is the one who has chosen the exact time, to the minute, when to send His Son to rapture up the saints. Jesus is saying to be alert so you won’t be caught off-guard, living in sin, when the Father sends Him because no one knows when He will come.

As you can see, the thief not only picked a day and hour but the month and year when he was going to break in. When robbers get together to make plans for a bank heist, they carefully choose the perfect opportunity (the month, day, and hour) to carry out their plan.

If we believe in a Mid or Post-tribulation theology, then we will know at least the year when Jesus will come because Matthew 24:29-30 says…

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days:
‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’ 30 At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.

Matthew 24:29-30 tells you that right after the seven-year Tribulation, Jesus returns to rule on the earth for a thousand years. And the Scripture makes it clear that no one will know, the rapture, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, which is a different event from His second coming, which is described in the verses quoted above, only the Father knows the year, month, day, and hour.

“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who remains awake and clothed, so that he will not go naked and let his shame be exposed.” -Revelation 16:15 BSB
