Stand firm therefore, having belted your waist with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, -Ephesians 6:14 NASB
To stand firm against the enemy, it starts by knowing the truth and letting it cling to you like a belt—making it your foundation. The belt is very important because the sheath which holds the sword is connected to the belt. Without the belt, you can’t carry a sword. Basically, without knowing the truth (the Scriptures) you won’t read it, know it, and let it be part of your life—changing you into the image of Christ.
The breastplate of righteousness that goes on your chest protects your heart. It will protect you from an arrow killing you. Your heart is where your emotions lie—loving the Lord. The enemy would like to kill your love for the Lord Jesus Christ. How do you put on your Breastplate? By a living a life of righteousness—a life that pleases God, obeying what the Bible commands—staying away from a sinful lifestyle and pursuing a lifestyle of holiness because God is Holy (1 Peter 1:16).
