Exposing the spiritual landmines of the devil through the Word of God

Can A Christian Be possessed By A Demon?

Exodus 3:1-5

Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 Then the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire within a bush. As Moses looked, he saw that the bush was on fire but was not consumed. 3 So Moses thought: I must go over and look at this remarkable sight. Why isn’t the bush burning up?
4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush, “Moses, Moses!”
“Here I am,” he answered.
5 “Do not come closer,” He said. “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”

When God touched the ground, there was a radius around the bush that became holy or separated from the rest of the ground. Anything that God touches becomes like Him, holy. When Moses saw the burning bush and heard the voice of God calling him, he was immediately warned not to step on the ground that was made holy by God’s presence. Moses was instructed to take off his sandals which carried dirt that wasn’t made holy and it was prohibited from mixing it in with the rest that was under God.

Insight: Holy

Holy means to be set apart for God’s use and it also refers to being made clean by having our sins forgiven in Christ Jesus. God must clean us up first before we can become effective

When the Holy Spirit indwells a believer, the inner man is made holy because of God’s presence in his soul. That is made evident in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 which says, 16 Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s sanctuary and that the Spirit of God lives in you? 17 If anyone destroys God’s sanctuary, God will destroy him; for God’s sanctuary is holy, and that is what you are.

Anything unauthorized or unclean (evil spirits/demons), cannot take residence within us, where we have been made holy due to the Holy Spirit’s presence in our hearts.

To say it plainly, no demonic spirit can possess a believer indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
