QUESTION:
In Genesis 32:25, why did God dislocate Jacob’s hip?
ANSWER:
Genesis 32:32
32 That is why, to this day, the Israelites don’t eat the thigh muscle that is at the hip socket: because He struck Jacob’s hip socket at the thigh muscle.
Not only would Jacob remembered God’s promise by obtaining a limp from the Lord that He was going to make a nation through him (Genesis 28:10-15), future generations would not eat the thigh muscle of the animal as a remembrance of God’s Word to Jacob.
Sometimes God has to impart a permanent reminder as to help you not drift from Him.
Thanks for the explanation on Jacob, SpaniardVIII.
I like when you said, “Sometimes God has to impart a permanent reminder as to help you not drift from Him. ” I think that’s true in that sometimes, God has to “dislocate” a part of us as a reminder that we can’t do everything without Him.
That reminder that God places on us should always be there as a reminder that He is there as our Helper.
It might seem like a burden but that is what keeps us grounded in Christ. I liked the word “helper” that you used because that is what the reminder is.
