Why Do Atheists Seem To Have The Urge To Always Attack God’s Word?

Atheists saying no to God and yes to sin

Today I got a pingback from an atheist who takes pleasure in maligning believers in Jesus Christ. Here is a quick bio of Bruce which he put public.

Copy and paste from his site

Bruce Gerencser, 59

Bruce pastored Evangelical churches for 25 years in Ohio, Texas, and Michigan. Bruce left the ministry in 2005 and in 2008 he left Christianity. Bruce is now a humanist and an atheist.

The question that enters my mind is why do atheists hate Jesus so much as to go out of their way to attack Him and try so desperately to prove that He is false? I think that the answer is because deep down in their spirit/heart they know that the Word of God is true and judgment will come to them but, they want to feel better about their sin and rejection of Christ Jesus so by trying to disprove Christianity, they are trying to convince themselves, listen closely, “they are trying” to convince themselves of their own lie which Satan has whispered into their ears so that they can’t get saved. When a person is not in any perceivable danger, they won’t call for help and Satan is successful at convincing these atheists that they are not in danger.

The evidence that God exists is so overwhelming that the only way to go against pure evidence is by reprogramming their thoughts to completely bypass logic and reason.

Bruce Gerencser is a sad case of what an apostate is and the reality is that those who are not grounded in the faith will get hit hard by the devil who’s eyes are constantly on the believers. Saying that, I believe according to 1 John 2:19 that Bruce was never saved but was close and those without the Holy Spirit cannot stand against the pounding of the wind and waves of the enemy according to Matthew 7:26-27 which says, “26 And every one who hears these sayings of Mine and does not do them will be likened to a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house. And it fell. And its fall was great.”

Why have I mentioned this atheist by name? It is because I want all Christians to bring Bruce Gerencser’s name before the Lord for his salvation because the hell that’s waiting for him and all those who believe Satan’s lie is truly and unfathomably horrific.

  1. This guy again?! Remember when he did that to me? I’m sure it’s the same guy..older heavier set guy? When I did look on his page and even his videos what I saw was that he’s deeply hurt, wounded, and offended..I wasn’t angry with him I felt sad for him. And good on you friend to let us all know to pray for him. Amen!!

  2. Atheists don’t hate jesus because they don’t think he exists any more. Sin is a religious belief, they don’t accept that sin exists either.

    1. You’re 100% wrong, I went to an atheist site that has “I hate Jesus” and if I would ask you a question about being a theft if its wrong, what would you say? If you say yes then you acknowledge that it is a sin. Sin means that it is wrong.

      1. Actually, you are 100% wrong… on both counts.

        1) If you would have actually read the article from Bruce that you’re referencing you would know that essiep is right.

Go read it and repent before you further bear false witness.

        2) Acknowledging that there are theives (or that theft is ‘wrong’) in no way admits to the fundy concept of sin.

You’re in over your head here. Not only do criticize what you don’t understand, you’re not even well versed in your own dogma.

Jesus said that those who look at a woman to lust have commuted ‘sin…’ Sin is missing a mark that god has defined (as seen above).

No atheist believes that thought crime (e.g. Looking lustfully is (or ‘thought crime’) is sin.’ Why? Because, again as essiep said, ‘sin is a religious concept.’

        1. I have already repented and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, something that I hope you do before it’s too late. What is missing the mark? You have no clue what you are talking about, you are unqualified to understand scripture since it is discerned through the Holy Spirit which you are devoid of according to
          1 Corinthians 2:14
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Sin is disobedience to God’s Word, anything that goes against God’s commands is a sin. Falling short or missing the mark means that one’s good works can’t save them since we are born in sin only faith in Jesus Christ can we be saved. Sin is the opposite of good. Is it good to lust? Go tell your wife next time that you’re lusting after someone else see what happens. Sin’s actions are murder, theft, hatred (atheism) and etc. God is good and His goodness is seen through His sacrificial love on the cross…When one lust’s or commits murder he/she is doing the opposite of God’s commands which is sin/evil. I mean if you can’t understand the difference is because you love your sin and want to keep lusting, hating like your atheist’s friends.

You’re the one over your head since you can’t distinguish between right and wrong since you atheists don’t believe in evil which is silly.

  3. Hi,

Bruce just believes in one less god than you do. He doesn’t hate a non existent being. He is a humanist who values human life and seeks to treat others with dignity and respect. Bruce is right when he considers Fundamentalism to be a dangerous cult that oppresses people who are under its thumb.

The Jesus he hates is the American Jesus that is prevalent in Fundamentalist circles, not a Jesus of compassion, kindness and peace.

    John Arthur

      1. Hi Spaniard,

Is the American Jesus the same as the Jesus of the Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain? To hate the Jesus of American capitalism that champions the wealthy and the powerful and to love the Jesus of peace and compassion are two different things. As John Howard Yoder put it in his book “He came Preaching peace”, the Jesus of American capitalism is the antithesis of the Jesus who preached peace and well being (shalom).

So no, I don’t agree with you that Bruce hates Jesus Christ of the Sermon on the Mount. He just doesn’t believe that he rose from the dead or that God actually exists. He does NOT hate God.

        John Arthur

        1. The Jesus of the Bible is the same Jesus we worship today because Christians read and follow the living Word. If you meet a so-called Christian that lives contrary to scripture than they are not following the Jesus of the Bible. Jesus DID rise from the grave because His disciples gave up their lives for it. No one who makes up a story knowing that it is fake will die for it but they did because they truly seen the risen Lord Jesus and if you don’t repent and put your faith in Him you will be lost. Jesus loves you John and no matter what you are going through He wants a relationship with you. Don’t look at the flaws of people but look to Jesus of scripture who is perfect.

  4. “The evidence that God exists is so overwhelming”

Really? I don’t see any. I see lots of wishful thinking, but nothing that counts as evidence for any god.

    1. Let’s start with simple logic, do you need to see someone to know that they are there? The answer is no, why do I say that, its because if they leave evidence of themselves then that would be their footprint that they were there. Let’s use an illustration: You are in a deserted island but one morning you start to walk on the beach and it happens that you see footprints on the sand. You won’t question or start to think that the waves or time created those footprints but you will get excited. If you see a building you don’t have to question if a human built it regardless if you can meet him or not. In the same way the stars, the sun and the moon are God’s footprints on the sand, meaning that God left evidence of His existence and I’m not going to go into details on Biblical prophecy which were fulfilled and historical evidence of Jesus existence through secular historians and so forth. But I would like to stick to the basics and prove through creation that God does exist. The big bang, those who believe in it claim that an explosion created order while there is no evidence of that because if you explode a TNT, the only thing that it will create is disorder.

      Psalm 19:1-4
1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.
      2 Day after day they pour out speech;
night after night they communicate knowledge.
      3 There is no speech; there are no words;
      their voice is not heard.
4 Their message has gone out to all the earth,
and their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun.

      Romans 1:19-20
19 since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse.

      1. So where is the evidence linking that stuff to your god? You’ve made assertions that those things are because of your god. Assertions aren’t evidence though. You need to demonstrate why it’s your god that gets the credit.

        1. My God who is the true Living God is the one who created the universe. Creation itself shows that someone with intelligence, power, wisdom and who is eternal created the universe because of its complexity in all form of the word. The science community said that space is expanding outward meaning that it had a beginning. The evidence is all around you here on earth from flowers to all sorts of animals to our own planet. If the earth was too far or too close there wouldn’t be life on earth so it had to be placed just at the right distance from the sun. This argument can be like unto a dog that chases its own tail and gets nowhere. If you are set in your own beliefs then all of my evidence that I would present to you will be rejected. Either you are sincere or you just want to win an argument. If you just want to win an argument then you will have to try with someone else because I won’t waste by time since it won’t go nowhere.

    2. Actually, if there’s any wishful thinking limey, it’s the thought that God does not exist, hence no absolute right or wrong hence, resulting in sin being nonexistent, which results in being able to do whatever you want without consequence.

Such a mindset is pleasing to the carnal mind. But Christians say otherwise.

  5. Hi Spaniard,

Isn’t it a big jump from asserting the possibility of a creator to assuming that it must be Yahweh? Why not Allah? After all doesn’t the Muslim assume that Allah is the creator and that the Koran is his Word, just like the Fundamentalist Christian assumes that Yahweh is the creator and Jesus Christ and the bible are his Word?

    John Arthur

    1. I’m not assuming that God is Yahweh, I’m telling you that He is Yahweh which means I AM, never had a beginning if you are wondering what it means. The Qur’an was written 2400 years after the old testament. The Qur’an gives a new testimony of Jesus Christ which the Bible in Galatians 1:9 warns you about that if another angel gives a different view or testimony of Jesus let him be anathema, it means to be under God’s curse. The Qur’an which by the way I have read completely attacks the new testament. It asserts that Jesus didn’t die on the cross and that He wasn’t the Son of God. These assertion attack the salvation of menkind and His Deity. The Qur’an only has one purpose which is to oppose Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world making the Qur’an Satanic.

The other message you sent cannot be given a quick answer so I will have to answer you with a post.

  6. Proving there is a god by using the Bible is like using the word you are trying to define in its definition.
There is no provable evidence outside your flawed Bible that give any provable evidence of ANY god…let alone your interpretation of a god.

    1. There’s a saying that goes, “you can take a horse to the water trough but you can’t make it drink.” In the same way, “you can bring an atheist to evidence but you can’t make him see it.” You are surrounded by evidence but you foolishly choose to ignore what’s in your face. Your heart has already decided to reject the Truth, there’s nothing that anyone can do to prove it to you, you have already made up your mind. Thanks for stopping by, have a nice day.

  7. As an atheist, I hate religion because growing up it was being shoved down my throat every chance someone got. It is not about any religion specifically, its just that we are around so many religious people all the time that it gets frustrating to always defend your beliefs while the other person just assumes they are right and they are the majority so what can you do. When you grow up you just want to attack their beliefs like they attacked yours.

    1. Okay, hmm well, I don’t know who you have encountered but Christians as myself don’t attack people. We just give them the message of salvation and if you reject it we just leave you alone and go to someone else. No one can be forced to believe in Jesus Christ, it has to come from the heart of the person by they deciding on their own. I speak by my own encounters with other people.

      1. Ah it was just an opinion. I grew up around Muslims and Christians and if it wasn’t one it was the other shoving their beliefs but that’s just my experience, you may be a better person.

        1. I don’t consider myself better anyone else. Not everyone that claims to be Christians are one. Maybe they were immature in the faith or a false Christian like for an example: Jehovah Witnesses, Mormonism, etc. They both deny Christ deity which makes them non-Christian. But anyways thanks for your opinion.

  8. I posted 1 John 2:19 at Bruce’s site and it doesn’t phase him a bit. I guess we’re supposed to believe Bruce and all those who claim to be ex-Christians instead of God Himself, I guess God is a liar. NOT!!!!!! I do not care what Bruce or anyone claims, God’s word is clear that they’ve proven that they weren’t at any time a Christian. Ever. Period. We have God’s word on it. Let God be true and every man a liar.

      1. You”re right. I go there once in awhile just to see what’s being said but I don’t post anything, it doesn’t do any good. When I saw them wishing each other a secular Merry Christmas I would have liked to have told them since they reject Christ they ought to call it something besides CHRISTmas. But why bother.

        1. I know that you have tried but even Jesus in the Gospels did not respond to some. I can see your love for people to know the Lord. I suggest that you pray for him and ask the Lord to open a door to continue to share the Gospel with him

      1. Hey limey, good to see you, let me interject if you don’t mind. In 1 John 2:19 as Vicki put it, it says, 19 They went out from us, but they did not belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. However, they went out so that it might be made clear that none of them belongs to us.

What the passage means is that those who claimed to be followers of Jesus Christ but then apostatized shows that the Holy Spirit never took residence in their hearts (was never converted). A true Christian will never abandon Christ because Christ (the Holy Spirit) will never abandon them.

          1. I understand what you are saying but Scripture is very clear that those who do receive the Holy Spirit by faith in Jesus Christ are eternally saved as John 10:28-30 declares. Jesus will never abandon His followers. If one starts to drift off, Jesus’ brings him back but if they were never His you will see an abandonment of the Christian’s faith.

          2. Believe means completely trusting in Christ with your life. The evidence that a person has truly believed and that they have the Holy Spirit in their hearts is seen in their perseverance. The Bible promises that the Holy Spirit will never leave so for you to leave means you never had Him.

          3. These are people who had that trust. There are people in churches now that have that trust, but in ten years time will no longer believe.

The only way those people could not be Christians now, is if the Christian god has intentionally withheld salvation from them. Which means that the Christian god can’t love them.

          4. Limey, you can not know what is in a person’s heart only God can see that. God does not or will not withhold salvation from a person who has a sincere faith and trust in Christ. Those with insincere faith will not be saved.

          5. These are people who did have sincere faith. You can’t serve a church for years, decades even, and not have that sincere faith. If you went back ten years, you would never know the difference between those people who were Christians, and those who still are. Your god allowed these people to be deceived into thinking they were truly saved.
Your god is the only person who could have made a difference, and he did nothing.

          6. Limey, you CAN serve a church for decades and not be a Christian. This is what happened to Mr. Gerencser, sadly. One of Satan’s deceptions is to get people to live the Christian lifestyle without being a Christian. They’re deceived and the fact that they walk away PROVES they weren’t Christian. This is what God says, like it or not. It’s one way the unbiblical doctrine of loss of salvation is perpetuated. Oh I knew this person was a Christian and loved and served Christ for decades but they walked away and now reject Christ and that proves you can lose your salvation people then say. No, it proves they weren’t Christian according to the Bible and the Bible is the higher authority. If I have to choose between believing men or God, the choice should be obvious.

          7. And a god that would allow someone to live their life in service like that, believing they are saved and loving god deeply, is a god that is a foul and unloving wretch.

          8. God gave people free will choice and I’m tired of listening to your insults and blasphemies against Him. As far as I’m concerned you can take your hatred of the Lord somewhere else but, then, it’s not my blog.

          9. I can’t hate something I don’t think exists.

I’m tired of beng told I never believed. I’m tired of seeing former believers being told it’s their fault god refused to reveal himself to them. I’m tired of seeing former believers being told it’s their fault god didn’t properly save them.

It’s not their fault. And they did truly believe.

          10. It is not too late for you, limey. Jesus hasn’t abandoned you, you left Him but, He wants you back. You know, limey, true faith will never make a person leave Christ regardless the hardships one faces. As long as you got breath in you, you have a chance to get right with Jesus. All your sins can be forgiven if you lay them at Jesus’ feet.

      2. Mental assent doesn’t equal true faith. If they”d had true faith in Jesus, money would have remained in the Christian faith. That’s what God’s word tells is.

  9. In my comment to one of limey’s posts, should say if they had true faith in Jesus they would have remained in the faith. Always have trouble with this screen keyboard. I replied directly to his
post so not sure where it’ll appear.

    1. And yet your god allowed them to believe they were saved and then allowed them to walk away from that belief. Your god could have stopped them walking away. Some of those people literally begged to your god on their knees for help to stay believing. And yet your god did nothing.

Your god, if he exists, is the only person who is guilty in that situation.

      1. You keep misunderstanding how salvation works. God goes after His children those who have truly believed in Him. But, those who say that they are Christians and then abandon Him never truly had committed themselves to Him. That means that they are not truly His children. Jesus does not go after illegitimate children. But, saying that, He does go after everyone for the purpose of convicting them of their sins so that they would repent of their sins and believe in Jesus Christ for salvation

        1. You keep ignoring the fact that these are people who did truly believe.
Your god, if he exists, abandoned them.
That is the only way they could have stopped believing. This is what I am trying to get you to understand.

          1. We aren’t seeing eye to eye on this issue. I’m giving you a biblical perspective, I know that according to Scripture, to understand spiritual matters one has to have the Spirit of God living inside of you. I do appreciate your questions and your visit.

          2. I get that we don’t see eye to eye.

If scripture is as clear as you say, then why don’t all Christians talk like you do? There are Christians who think you’ve got scripture wrong.

You also are still ignoring the issue that a god who allows people to think they are saved to live a saved life for years and decades, is a devious god who wilfully fools people, playing with them like a cat with a wild mouse before finally consuming it.

          3. Which Christians think differently from what I have been telling you?

God doesn’t make people think that they are saved. People are the ones who deceive themselves thinking that they are saved because they never committed their hearts to Christ.

You are trying to blame God but people need to take responsibility for their actions. God gives free will but if the person does not truly give their hearts to Jesus then they are the ones not being honest to themselves.

          4. Good reply, Spaniard, but I doubt he’s going to listen. Indeed, God is NOT the one making people think they’re saved when they’re not.

          5. Their are Christians who accept that other true believing Christians can stop believing.

Suggesting that people can’t know that they’re not properly committed to god is ridiculous. It’s like saying a parent can’t know if they love their child. Of course people know the state of their commitment. The only person doing any deceiving is your god.

          6. You say that a Christian can stop believing…right? Explain these verses to me limey:

            John 10:28-30
28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

No one can take a Christian away from Jesus, making them abandon Jesus and lose their salvation.

          7. If those verses from John are correct and a Christian can’t turn away from god. Then there is a very serious problem with the conversion process. I’ll ignore the free will problem that brings and restate my point below.
I’ll state it again because you have failed to address this point, despite my mentioning it already. These are Christians who genuinely believed in their salvation. The only being who can provide that salvation is your god. So for those Christians to not be truly saved, you god must have withheld salvation from them, despite them doing all the right things and firmly believing and experiencing their salvation for many years, decades even. A god that does that is a nasty god.

          8. Let me stop you there. There is a disconnect with the concept that just because a person says he or she is a Christian doesn’t mean that they really are one. If the person abandons Jesus, that indicates that the person never had the Holy Spirit in the first place. A Christian cannot lose their salvation so if they end up rejecting Jesus, they were not genuine believers.

  10. No they did not truly believe. If they had, they wouldn’t have left the faith, it’s that simple. God didn’t abandon them. Jesus will say to them “I never knew you” not “ I knew you once. It now I don’t.” Plenty of people sit in church pews who don’t have true faith. The wheat and fares grow together and the Lord alone knows without error which are which.

      1. Stop blaming and accusing God for people not doing what his word says to do to be saved and instead relying on their own or other people’s ideas. You will get nowhere making accusations against God. This diatribe of yours has grown beyond tiresome.

          1. No they didn’t. Tha fact that they walked away proves it. The very word you speak of says so. Go argue with God.

  11. You can argue against God all you want to and blame Him for all you want to but the bottom line is either you believe what His word says or you don’t and you obviously don’t. So what do we really have to talk about? If you don’t even believe He exists, how can you rail against Him and make accusations against someone who doesn’t exist? I think many so called atheists aren’t true atheists, they’re just mad at God because reality isn’t what they want it to be or some other reason.

P.S. it doesn’t matter what other Christians believe, it matters what the Bible says.
